Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of Cowrie. By creating an account you agree to them.
Last updated 26 July 2026
Cowrie records the numbers you enter. It does not give financial advice, and nothing it displays should be treated as a recommendation. See section 6.
1. Agreement
These terms are between you and Manidu Maneesha. By creating an account or using Cowrie, you accept them. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. What the service is
Cowrie is a personal finance tool for recording expenses, income, budgets, debts and savings decisions. Every figure it shows is derived from data you enter.
It is not connected to any bank. It does not read your real balances, move money, or execute transactions of any kind.
3. Your account
- You must provide a valid email address and keep it current, since it is the only way to recover access.
- You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for everything done through your account.
- An account is for one person. Do not share credentials.
- You must be at least 16 years old.
- If you suspect unauthorised access, change your password immediately — doing so signs out every other device — and contact us.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- attempt to access another user's account or data;
- probe, scan or test the security of the service without permission;
- use the service to store unlawful content, or to break any law;
- automate access in a way that degrades the service for others, or circumvent rate limits;
- upload information about other people beyond what the features reasonably require.
5. Your data belongs to you
You keep all rights to the information you enter. We claim no ownership of it and do not use it for any purpose other than operating the service for you, as described in the Privacy Policy.
You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Danger zone. Deletion is permanent and removes every record associated with you.
6. Not financial advice
Cowrie is a record-keeping tool. Nothing in it — including budgets, savings figures, net worth, debt balances or any suggestion the interface makes — constitutes financial, investment, tax or legal advice.
Figures are only as accurate as the data you enter. Do not rely on them for tax filing, lending decisions, or any legal or official purpose. For advice about your finances, speak to a qualified professional.
7. Availability and changes
The service is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind. There is no guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that data will never be lost.
Keep your own records of anything you cannot afford to lose. Cowrie should not be your only copy of important financial information.
Features may be added, changed or removed. Where a change materially reduces what the service does, reasonable notice will be given.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Manidu Maneesha is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, or loss of data arising from your use of the service, including any financial decision made on the basis of information it displays.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, or for anything that cannot lawfully be excluded.
9. Termination
You may stop using Cowrie and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms, or where required by law. Where circumstances allow, notice and an opportunity to retrieve your data will be given first.
10. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated. Continued use after a change means you accept the revised version. The date at the top reflects the current one.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka, and its courts have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute. This does not remove any protection you have under the mandatory law of the country where you live.
